Stimuli-responsive vesicles for controlled drug delivery

Precisely delivering and releasing drugs at their target remains a key determinant of successful medicinal treatment. To accomplish this task, liposomes are ideal drug carriers due to their biocompatibility, versatility and similarity to the cellular lipid membrane. Moreover, they are particularly promising to overcome poor pharmacokinetics and to reduce side effects.

Our research focuses on developing stimuli-responsive liposomal drug carriers by associating and functionalizing them with nanoparticles. We work with a broad range of different nanomaterials with a specific emphasis on providing a trigger for controlled release, improved mechanical stability and/or a tag for real-time drug tracking. With this research, we expect to contribute to the development of a robust and reliable nanocarrier for medical purposes which exceed simple drug delivery alone.
