LSI-Goniometer

The light scattering apparatus from LSInstruments GmbH.

The LSI light scattering apparatus for simultaneous dynamic and static light scattering measurements is equipped with a thermalized index matching bath and monitoring via a Pt100-sensor. The scattered light is collected in the angular range of 15 to 140° by two high efficient APD's and processed in a flex-correlator in auto- or pseudocross-correlation configuration. Thus, in aqueous samples we have access to a q-range of 0.0034 to 0.025 1/nm.

The apparatus can be used with 5 mm and 10 mm cylindrical glass cells and is equipped with a sample goniometer where non-ergodic samples can be rotated and characterized.

Light source: HeNe 632.8 nm with 20mW.

 We use this instrument for:

- molecular weight determination (Zimm plots)

- particle sizing via hydrodynamic radius

- particle form factor determination

- structure factor of strongly interacting dilute systems

- static light scattering from polymer solutions and polymer like micelles
