Release of the first Swiss Nanotech Report
The new Swiss Nanotech Report 2010 provides the first detailed overview of the latest developments in nanoscience and of the impact of nanotechnology on economy and science in Switzerland. On an international level, the confederation stands among the most innovative countries in this field. From data storage devices based on polymer systems to self-cleaning surfaces to UV-blockers in sun lotions, a broad spectrum of applications have emerged in recent years, highlighting the successful transfer of knowledge from basic research to application within Switzerland. The report reveals that, since 1990, an increasing number of patents have been issued (more than ten per million of inhabitants), which exemplifies remarkably the innovative power of Switzerland as a leader in nanotechnology. This development is strongly backed up by an excellent support, through steady financial support as well as reliable policies in our country. As a partner of this event, the Adolphe Merkle Institute (AMI) was actively involved in the writing of this report, and aims at contributing to the rise of nanotechnology in Switzerland through a savvy combination of pure science and application-oriented research.
