Tailoring interactive microgels

Prof. Walter Richtering

Lehrstuhl für Physikalische Chemie II, Institut für Physikalische Chemie, RWTH Aachen University, Aachen, Germany

Multisensitive microgels based on acrylamides change their properties depending on external parameters as, e.g., temperature and pH but also adapt their size and shape when adsorbing at oil / water interfaces. In this presentation we will discuss how properties of colloidal hydrogels can be tailored. We will address different routes as exploiting the hydrogen bonding pattern via copolymerization of differently substituted acrylamides, the incorporation of dissociable groups , the microgel architecture and the adsorption and absorption of polyelectrolytes or solvents.
