The Adolphe Merkle Institute (AMI) is part of the Faculty of Science at the University of Fribourg. Teaching and research are pursued on an interdisciplinary basis, so cooperation with other departments and universities is important to the Institute.
- The AMI plans to establish four interdisciplinary research groups based
on chemistry, physics, biology and nanotechnology, each with a different
focus.

- The AMI and the Departments of Physics, Chemistry and Earth science at the University of Fribourg participate jointly in the Fribourg Center for Nanomaterials (Frimat) collaborative project.
